The Trumbull Retired Teachers Association aims to enhance all phases of a retired teacher’s life. We address financial, health, recreational and legislative interests . TRTA has been recognized at local, state and national levels for the work of individual members and committee work. TRTA works closely with the community , sponsoring spelling bees and donating scholarships on an annual basis. TRTA meets bi-monthly at noon on the second Tuesday of the month. Retired teachers and household members living on a teaching pension are encouraged to join TRTA. TRTA is an affiliate of Ohio Retired Teachers , ORTA, and STRS. Membership forms are available on this blogspot. New members are always welcome.

May 13 marks the start of pre-registration for students to enter the TRTA Spelling Bee..The 27th Annual Spelling Bee is sponsored by Trumbull Retired Teachers and is set for Thursday, July 11, at 1 p.m. at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds on Everett-Hull Road . Preregistration for grades 1 through 8 will begin on Thursday, May 13.

We are VERY happy to announce that a bipartisan bill was introduced in the House last Friday, April 26, to repeal the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision. It was introduced by Representatives Rodney Davis (R-IL) and Adam Schiff (D-CA). WE THANK THEM! The text of the bill should appear on www.thomas.loc.gov in a few days. You can always check that site to read the bill (search for the bill by number) and to see if your Congressperson has signed on as a co-sponsor. We are expecting a similar bill to be introduced in the Senate very soon.
Urge your Representative to support and co-sponsor the bill to end GPO and WEP, and restore Social Security fairness! This is easy! Go to www.house,gov, find their website, bookmark it and take a few minutes to let them know you are expecting their support. Repeat this process every month.
We need remind them constantly of this problem.
